Here’s How I Stay Motivated to Work Out

Have you decided it’s time to start working out? You’ve taken the steps to start a new workout program but then suddenly you stopped. Is this you? If so you’re not the only one who has decided it’s time to start working out and then suddenly quit your program. People often quit for various reasons. Sometimes people are impatient and don’t see the results they want fast enough. While others simply get bored with the workout program they have started. Whatever your reason may be, here are some tips that will help you become motivated and stay motivated.

You must have a goal

Set a goal that is attainable. Once you have reached that goal you can set more goals. If you set goals that you cannot reach your motivation will suffer.

If you are new to working out you should set small goals that are realistic to your fitness level. At a beginners level you could start by walking for 10 minutes a day at least 5 times a week depending on your schedule. Once you have reached that goal you can move onto the next level of walking for 30 minutes a day at 5 times a week. After you have accomplished that and you feel comfortable you are now ready to move onto the next level such as walking a 5K.


Excitement is Important

Change up your routine a little bit. Look for different activities that you enjoy that will keep you excited. If you are finding that there is something about your workout that you don’t enjoy try something new. You could try softball, ballroom dancing, martial arts, and volleyball. If you are not happy with the fitness club you have joined explore a new one. The key is to find what makes you happy and keeps you excited. You may find that you are talented in one of those areas.

Make working out part of your schedule

A lot of people are pressed for time and will often say they don’t have time to work out. Working out should be part of your daily schedule it is just as important as any other activity you do throughout your day.

If you find that you don’t have the time to work out one day you could climb stairs instead of taking the elevator. If you are busy with your children’s schedule such as their sports games you can walk around while watching their game instead of sitting. If the weather is bad and you can’t get out you can workout at home on a stationary bike while watching your favorite TV show.

Write your goals down

Is your goal to improve energy levels? Is your goal to tone up and lose weight? Are you working on managing pain or wanting to sleep better at night? You should be writing these goals down.

Not only should you be writing your goals down but you should also be logging your progress. If you keep a record of what you are accomplishing this will keep you motivated. You will be able to find out what is working and what is not working. This will help you reach your goal and make improvements.

Include friends, colleagues, family, and neighbors

The best way to accomplish a goal is to include others. You don’t have to do it alone. You can work out with a friend, a neighbor, your colleagues, your partner, or a family member. You can play sports with your children. You can take a fitness class with your friends or neighbors.


Give yourself a reward

Every time you work out you should give yourself a reward afterwards. You should be proud of what you have accomplished each day and reward yourself for the effort. This will keep you motivated to continue on your path.

Make adjustments, be flexible, and be patient

Some days things will come up and you won’t be able to work out. Some days you will not feel like working out. Sometimes you will just need a break. No matter what your reason it’s ok to take a break. You can take one day off or a few days off. Just remember to make sure you get back to working out as soon as possible.

Alright you have found your motivation once again. It’s now time to start working out! Remember to be patient, set goals, keep it exciting, and reward yourself each time you accomplish a goal.
